One-off websites, paid once

Bespoke website design you own outright, from £549

Some businesses would rather pay once and keep it. I design and build one-off websites from £549, then hand them over, with hosting and care from me only if you want them.

The short answer

What is a bespoke website?

A bespoke website is designed around one business, its customers and its content, rather than bought as an off-the-shelf theme and filled in. From a UK freelancer or agency, a small bespoke site typically costs £1,000 to £6,000 or more. Our one-off websites start at £549 because each one starts from a layout already proven for your trade, then gets designed around you.

What bespoke website design really means

Bespoke website design gets used for everything from a cheap theme with your logo on it to a five-figure build from a blank page. Before you compare quotes, it helps to know which of three things you're being offered.

  • A template filled in: an off-the-shelf theme with your words and photos dropped in
  • Tailored from a proven layout: designed around your business, starting from a structure that already works for your kind of customer
  • Designed from scratch: a unique layout, often with brand work and custom features, and priced to match

Our one-off builds are the middle option. For most small businesses it's the best value: it looks and reads like yours, without paying for someone to reinvent a contact page. If you genuinely need something from scratch, I'll say so and quote for it.

One-off website or monthly plan

Both are designed around your business. The difference is how you pay and who looks after it afterwards.

Paying once usually works out cheaper over several years if you're happy to look after the site. Monthly suits owners who'd rather keep cash in the business and never think about hosting. If you're unsure, see how pay monthly websites work.

What's in a one-off build

The starting price covers a small business website. Anything beyond it is quoted before I start.

  • Designed around your business

Your name, logo, colours and services, in a layout that suits how your customers choose.

  • Built for phones first

Checked on phones, tablets and laptops, with tap-to-call and buttons sized for thumbs.

  • Google basics done properly

Page titles, descriptions, clear headings and a fast-loading site. No ranking promises, just the foundations.

  • A contact form that reaches you

Enquiries straight to your inbox, tested before handover.

  • Live on your domain

Set up on your own domain name, registered in your name.

  • A proper handover

What the site runs on, where it's hosted and what needs doing to keep it healthy, in plain English.

Why some one-off websites cost more

The £549 starting price is for a small site with a handful of pages and your content ready to go. These are the things that add to it, and you'll know the total before any work starts.

  • More pages, such as one per service or per area
  • Writing the text from scratch rather than editing yours
  • Features like booking systems or links to other software
  • Design from a blank page, including logo or brand work

One thing I don't build is online shops with a basket and checkout. A dedicated shop platform does that better and cheaper, and I'd rather tell you now than halfway through.

How a one-off build works

  1. Step 1: Try a style with the free preview

Pick your trade and type your business name to see a starting point. It takes about a minute and needs no card.

  2. Step 2: Tell me what you need

By email or a short call: your pages, features and any text you already have. You get a clear price back.

  3. Step 3: I design and build it

Usually 1 to 2 weeks from getting your content, depending on the size of the site.

  4. Step 4: You check it and ask for changes

Look through everything on your phone and laptop, and send any changes before it goes live.

  5. Step 5: Go live and hand over

The site goes live on your domain, and you get everything you need to run it, or ongoing care from me if you'd prefer.

A one-off website for a professional firm

A live template for a law firm, the kind of business that often prefers to own its website outright. A one-off build starts from a layout like this, then gets designed around you.

Example template for a law firm. Whitmore Solicitors is a made-up business: your preview uses your name. See the template for every trade.

What to notice

  1. Check how quickly you can find the services and the contact route on a phone
  2. Styles, colours and your logo change the feel without changing what works
  3. “Try this with my details” shows it with your firm's name

If you'd rather own your website, I'd rather build it properly and hand it over than talk you into a monthly plan you don't want.

Questions people ask

Message CharlieI reply within one working day
How much does a bespoke website cost in the UK?

It depends on what bespoke means to whoever is quoting. A small site tailored to your business typically costs £1,000 to £2,000 from a freelancer and £2,000 to £6,000 or more from an agency, and designs built from a blank page with custom features cost more again. Our one-off builds start from £549, and you'll get a clear price before any work starts.

Is a bespoke website better than a template?

Not automatically. A well-chosen layout designed around your business will usually beat an expensive custom design that's hard to use on a phone. What matters is clear words, fast pages and an easy way to get in touch. Pay for from-scratch design when you genuinely need something no layout can do.

How long does a one-off website take?

Usually 1 to 2 weeks from the day I have your content, depending on how many pages and features the site needs. The most common delay is waiting for text and photos, so it helps to gather those before we start. Monthly plans are quicker: they go live within 1 working day of your answers to a few quick questions.

Is hosting included with a one-off website?

Not in the one-off price. Every website needs hosting, and you can arrange your own or have me host and look after it on a care plan. I'll explain what your site needs before you decide, so there are no surprises after it goes live.

Can I buy my website outright if I'm on a monthly plan?

Yes. If you're on a monthly plan and decide you'd rather own the site, you can buy it outright instead of cancelling. Email me and I'll give you a price. Either way, your domain name, your text and your photos are always yours.

Do I own the design and content of a one-off website?

Yes. Once it's paid for, the website is yours to keep and change as you see fit. Your domain is registered in your name from the start, and the text and photos you supply were always yours. If you'd like me to keep looking after it, that's a separate care plan.

See your website before you spend a penny.
